Germany / Harzer Schmalspurbahnen (October 2006)

Harzer Schmalspurbahnen is a narrow gauge railway (1000mm) with its network of more than 140km in the Harz area in Germany. Most of the passenger trains in the section between Wernigerode and Brocken, which is located in the highest place among German railway stations, are operated by steam. At the station Schierke on the branch line to Brocken, a train arrived and left for the steep grade line.

In the section between Wernigerode and Drei Annen Hohne, trains had to crime up through the forest with sharply curved track.
At the Drei Annen Hohne station, three steam trains were lined up at the same time. 12:30 pm, right hand train departed for Brocken, 3 minutes later left hand train departed for Nordhausen Nord. Finnally at 12:36 pm, the other train left for northbound for Wernigerode.
